Situated on the top of a hill from which you can enjoy the sight on the sweet surrounding hills, Radda is in the center of the area of the Chianti Classico. The city has Etruscan origins: traces of this mysterious people have been found in the territory.
Radda has still today the ancient medieval walls and urban elliptic structure. In the center of the village there is the Palace of the Podestà, built in the 15th century, whose facade is adorned with crests, and the Church of San Niccolò, that has Romanesque origin but has endured several transformations.
In the outskirtses there are the Franciscan Convent of Santa Maria in locality Prato, that accommodates a museum of religious art, and the village of Volpaia, whose medieval castle, placed on border between Florence and Siena, must once have a remarkable importance, and has wide walls with towers.
